World history was made at Checkpoint Charlie. Not only the objects and documents here, but also the presentation of German reunification in our museum are witnesses to it. Since 1962 visitors learned about successful escapes under, on and over the ground, as well as the courage of people whose desire for freedom was greater than their fear.






The world

Checkpoint Charlie was and remains a symbol of global division and unity. The Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie honours NATO’s international mission for freedom, as well as that of politicians such as President Ronald Reagan and Hans-Dietrich Genscher. Current conflicts and human rights violations by dictators are documented.

Collection

The collection at the Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie shows that the museum grew naturally over time. Friendships with escape accomplices brought the escape artefacts to us. Through our human rights work we also received numerous items and artworks from activists and artists. Overall the collection constitutes a unique variety that distinguishes our museum and makes it one of a kind.

Working for freedom

Our special exhibits are devoted to current topics. We show our commitment to human rights and the freedom of Mikhail Khodorkovsky. We have fought for his freedom for three-and-a-half years.
